The Trillium Drug Plan runs from August 1st to July 31st and deductibles are divided into four quarters (three-month segments). This calculator helps you figure out what your deductible costs would be.

Using the Calculator to Understand the Costs
If you select a start date just prior to July 31st you will not see what the costs are for an entire year – only what it will cost you from present to end of July to use Trillium. (That will be a small amount.)
To get a clear understanding of how much the total cost would be for an entire year’s use of Trillium based on the income you filed in your last income tax returns, play with the calculator, and pretend you will start using the Trillium Drug Plan on August 1st as your start date. That will show you what an entire year looks like in terms of deductible costs based on your last reported income.
What if … your income is going to change this year by more than 10%?
You may have noticed there is a time lag with the Trillium method of calculations – it is based on your last reported income on last year’s income tax.
What if you are simply not going to make income anywhere near as much as you made in your last year or reported income? Your quarterly deductible payments should be less provided this is a change of more than 10%.
Use your current income filed with the CRA but also submit a Annual Deductible Re-Assessment Request form (#014-4931-87) at the Ontario Central Forms Repository - you can find it by searching the form number at the repository’s web site. (Forms are in English and French.) A short list of forms will populate the page. Pick the right form based on your official language preference and the current year.
What if … you have not filed income tax from the prior year?
Trillium allows alternative documents to be filed with the application. Include all your T4/T4A and/or T5 slips. Trillium may ask you for more documents such as an Employment Insurance (EI) Registration Letter, or Record of Employment (ROE). If you or your other household member(s) do not file their income taxes and have zero income from the previous taxation year, a signed and dated declaration must be submitted. Call Trillium at the contact number below to verify this information as procedures can change.
Note: Canada’s CRA also maintains a list of free tax clinics staffed by volunteers – simply search Free Tax Clinics Canada and find them on the www.canada.ca site. Volunteer tax preparation clinics can be held at any time during the year; however, most clinics are offered in March and April. This is useful but be prepared if you owe income tax – especially if you are self employed and made no deductions.
